What this site is, and what it is not yet

TEF Practice exists because the gap between “I speak decent French” and “I have the score Canada asks for” is wider, and more procedural, than most candidates expect. Most of the expensive mistakes in this process are not language failures. They are people registering for the wrong variant, assuming CEFR B2 equals NCLC 7, letting a certificate expire between profile creation and PR submission, or entering the wrong number on an IRCC form.

What is live today

• A score calculator that converts TEF Canada scores to NCLC per skill and shows which programs those numbers open.
• The full conversion charts: TEF to NCLC, TEF to CEFR, the TEF IRN certification rules, and how Quebec differs.
• Format guides for all four TEF Canada components, and explainers for TEFAQ, TEF IRN and TEF Études.
• A blog written against the current rules, which flags what changed and when.

What is being built

Actual practice: exam-format questions with AI scoring on the same dimensions CCI's assessors use, and a speaking partner that behaves like the TEF examiner - pushing back on your position rather than waiting politely for you to finish.

That is deliberately not on the site yet. Publishing practice questions we have not verified against the real format would be worse than publishing nothing, and TEF formats changed materially in December 2023 and again for IRN in April 2025. When it ships, it ships because it is right, not because the page looked empty.

We are not a test centre, we do not sell sittings, and we are not affiliated with CCI Paris Île-de-France, IRCC, or Quebec's MIFI. Everything here describes the rules as we understand them at the date on each page. Confirm current requirements with the authority handling your application before you file anything.

Corrections

If something on this site is wrong or out of date, we want to know. This is a domain where stale information is the default and correctness is the whole product.
