TEF exam fees and registration
TEF registration is decentralised. CCI accredits more than 500 centres worldwide and each one sets its own price, so budgeting from a generic figure you found online is how people get surprised at checkout.

These are examples from individual authorized centres, not national rates. Exchange rates, membership status, taxes, which modules you take and rescheduling policies all move the number.

Price the exact variant at the exact centre before you budget. A two-skill citizenship sitting and a four-skill TEF Canada are very different purchases.
From booking to result
- 1Confirm with your receiving authority which certificate and which score you need. This decides everything downstream.
- 2Choose the variant: TEF Canada, TEFAQ, TEF IRN or TEF Études.
- 3Find an authorized CCI centre and pick a session.
- 4Register with that centre and pay its fee. Submit ID and, if needed, accommodation documentation before registering.
- 5Receive the centre's instructions and your exam invitation.
- 6Sit the required components on test day, with ID and no prohibited materials.
- 7CCI scores the test, double-assessing writing and speaking.
- 8Results are normally issued electronically within 1–10 business days.
- 9Check your scores and the relevant equivalence, then submit while the certificate is still valid.
Common questions
How much does the TEF cost?
There is no worldwide price. CCI states explicitly that each authorized centre sets its own fee, and the cost varies by variant and by how many components you take. Canadian centres have recently listed roughly CAD 380 to 390 for a full four-skill TEF Canada.
Why is TEFAQ cheaper than TEF Canada?
Because TEFAQ is modular. You pay per component and only take the ones your Quebec program requires, whereas TEF Canada requires all four on the same day. A two-component citizenship configuration is similarly cheaper than a full sitting.
Can I get a refund if I cannot attend?
Cancellation, refund and transfer rules are set by the centre and the session, within CCI's overall registration conditions. Read them before you pay. An immigration deadline or a change of plans does not guarantee a refund.
