TEF Canada reading: what it actually looks like

How it works

• You can move around inside the reading test and revisit items.
• Texts range from short practical notices and adverts through to argumentative articles.
• Wrong and blank both score zero, so never leave an item empty.
• The raw count is converted to a calibrated score to even out difficulty between test forms.

What goes wrong

• Sinking five minutes into one ambiguous item early on. Flag it, bank the certain marks, come back.
• Reading the whole text before looking at the question, on question types where scanning for evidence is faster.
• Choosing the option that contains words you recognise from the text, which is exactly how distractors are built.
